Pak. U.S. Disability Policy Professional Exchange Program

Overview

U.S. Embassy in collaboration with Mobility International USA organized an exchange program that was attended by parliamentarians, civil society organization representatives and persons with disabilities. The purpose of the exchange program was to draft a similar legislation in Pakistan which the help of lawmakers and technical experts from the United States.Redon

A documentary film was made to document the overall exchange program in a documentary form that was later presented on Pakistan Television (PTV). The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill 2019 has brought change in the lives of 28 million persons with disabilities living in Pakistan.

During the exchange program the participants learned about the concepts of rights based approaches, independent living, inclusive education and making accessibility for persons with disabilities. After the exchange program, parliamentarians helped in the approval of Pakistan Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill in 2019.
